Ambassador of India to Thailand, H.E. Nagesh Singh, recently met with Mr. Surachit Phongsinghvithya, President of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, to advance discussions on branding Bangkok’s Pahurat area as ‘Little India.’ This initiative seeks to transform Pahurat into a vibrant cultural landmark, celebrating the age-old civilizational and cultural ties between India and Thailand.
During their initial meeting at Bangkok Municipal Council, Ambassador Singh and President Surachit discussed strategic plans to highlight Pahurat’s Indian heritage, making it a living monument to the longstanding friendship between the two nations. The vision includes showcasing Indian culture, traditions, and history while fostering stronger socio-economic connections through tourism, commerce, and cultural exchanges.
In a follow-up meeting at India House, Ambassador Singh hosted President Surachit and senior officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Council to fast-track the project. Ambassador Singh thanked President Surachit’s proactive leadership and dedication to the initiative, emphasizing the project’s potential to create a dynamic hub for celebrating India-Thailand relations.
President Surachit reaffirmed his commitment to the project, highlighting the mutual benefits for Bangkok and the Indian community. Both sides agreed to work collaboratively to implement the project, which will include infrastructural enhancements, cultural events, and the promotion of Indian art, cuisine, and heritage in the area.
The branding of Pahurat as Little India is expected to not only enrich Bangkok’s multicultural identity but also strengthen the enduring bonds between the two nations, reflecting the shared history, values, and aspirations of their peoples.
